my engine is badly damaged after the timing belt snapped, if i got another engine the same (x14xe). would it be a straight swap?
or could i stick a x16xe? dont think i could afford the insurance tho.

yeah you can stick another 1.4 16v in with no probs, and a 1.6 16v will go in too with no probs as well

why not jus replace the head mate it would be cheeper than changeing a full engine jus coz of a few bent valves

It would be immobilised as the immobiliser is in the ecu.

Looms will be the same between x16xe and x14xe but c16xe will be different!

You'd have to use the 1.6 key. That 'should' solve it. Or just tape the 1.6 key to the sensor.
Cheaper to replace the engine if it will need a rebuild with new pistons.

where do u have to tape the 1.6 key?
is there something in the key that sends a message to the ecu?
if so can it not be put in the original key?

yes you could swap the transponder in the key. Its rectangular in shape trying to think of something to compare it with size wise.

ok i think ive got it!
to swap x14xe to another x14xe its just a straight swap of the engine.
and for x14xe to x16xe you swap the engine, and put the programme chip from the x16xe ECU to the x14xe ECU. and this will stop me having to change the chip in the key.
can someone please confirm this? cheers
