Sorry to bring back an old thread (found it by search rather than ask again) but I want to clean my AFM to see if it cures a slight idle problem.

I was told in another thread that spraying injection/carb cleaner, like mentioned above, into your engine will damage my AFM?
Also, sounding dumb here, what do u mean by "airline" and how would I apply it to clean the AFM?

Thanks.

i've done this on 2 cars now, my primera 2.0gtse and the c20xe lump i have in my corsa. take the afm off the car spray it clean and allow to dry in the air. refit and away you go. both cars ran fine,no harm done.

btw carb cleaner is just an aerosol based solvent, cleans any oil/carbon off and evaporates very quickly. dinna use it in a confined space though or you will be flying .

2 conflicting opinions. Don't want to fuck up my car by doing it myself and making a mess of it

please tell me how a mild solvent which evaporates in less than a minute will damage a thermister which quite often is coated with oil/carbon that comes from the breather pipe connected to the air intake .

btw you are welcome to come for a run in my 2.0l to see just how damaged my afm is .
