thats what it is there for. my m8 had a unichip on his x14xe and it revved happily to 8700rpm. it lasted him 12000miles and his engine only died when he went from 5th into second instead of fourth. at 110mph it wasnt happy

yep, engines are usually tough, as long as they are maintained there shoudn't be a problem in reving it hard.

thats what i've always thought too. why would a car have a LIMITER on? its there to limit, it won't blow your engine up
red line

i'd prefer an engine that worked.

Wots that supposed to mean? cos my red Sxi has a higher limiter than my black Sxi did. The black one kicked in at 6,500. But my red one kicks in at like 6,800

And yes as long as the engine is maintained and stuff is checked regularly there is nothing worng with reving high.
Just use good oil and change it regularly.
I've just put 5w30 magnatec in mine.... figure it'll get to the top of the engine easier and avoid wear on the camshaft.

i think the 1.0 12v and 1.2 16v are crap angines... my 1.2 16v is going into vauxhall for idle and power loss problems with ecu light coming on.

i just blew mine up, and gettin another one put in. cheeper that way. (£200 for a engine and fitted) cheeper than spending £100 on a new idle valve and gettin vaux to plug your car in and repair it!!
