just curious...
when i was at the petrol station this guy was saying how his mate set on fire because his mobile ignited the fuel...
so,
whats the huge deal with not having mobile turned on at a petrol station?
has it been proven that it'll cause an explosion or whatever?

found something interesting the otherday.
you have to switch of you mobil in hospitals, not because of xrays and stuff, but because most are so old, that mobiles can set fo the fire alarms. but they tell you its because of xrays and stuff, because you would just do it!

Its to do with radio frequency energy being emitted from the phone, if powerful enough you can cause sparks and of course ignite stuff. Its a precaution - modern mobiles run at about 2 watts and you need 8 or more during some fairly unique conditions for a real risk.

no you have to swtich them off because they can interfere with the equipment however doctors go tot eh canteen wearing their white coats after going round the wards. Doctors are stupid fucks

no they cant, mobile fone frequencies are much to high to interfere with the instrumentation used in petrol stations

Seen this debate a while back on Sky one's Brainiac - science abuse. Richard hammond set 4 (or more?) phones in a caravan with petrol cans beside them and got the others from the show to ring the phones - guess what? nothing happened.
If the battery works itself loose and arcs across the connectors in the phone, it could cause a spark, but your battery would have to be very loose for that to happen I reckon. And what's the chances of that spark igniting the vapour from the petrol??

^^ Could happen if you dropped the phone in the petrol station and the battery came off

Pagers don't work like mobile phones - they don't transmit (unless you have a 2-way), and just keep listening out for a 'paging' message.
Mobile phones in hospitals are more about getting patients & visitors to use the expensive payphones than about safety - doctors do use their phones almost everywhere around hospitals, and hospitals often have radio transmitters to communicate with incoming ambulances, etc. - which transmit at a much higher power than cellular phones!

my mate works at a shell garage and he told me that they dont like the use of mobiles because the signals whatever they are can interfere with the pump clocking equipment.its possible it doesnt count the fuel delivery properly so u get more fuel for less.thats why shell going back to analogue counters n scrappin the digital ones
