Basically im after a nice headunit, brought it down to these two, i know lots will say alpine and i agree to a point that the sq and internal amp (4x60w) is better, but it doesnt have a graphical eq. and looks a little boring, but its a sexy unit at the same time lol
the alpine is 80 quid cheaper, but as for the pioneer - i could install it myself as it doesnt need a permanent live from the batt (does the alpine!?!?) and it looks nice and will go with my motor lol.
I was thinking of the following amp, but will it be able to run the alpine type r sub (the 2ohm one) 1221d
350watt RMS Mono class D
Peak Power 1000W
• 300W RMS
• Dual 2ohm Voice coils
• Frequency Response: 24Hz - 2kHz
• High-excursion 1" Santoprene® Edge
• Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone
• Dual Progressive Nomex® Spiders with Edge Control
• Integrated Tinsel Lead Spider Design
• Custom Cast Aluminium Frame with Integrated Heat Transfer Plate
• Extended Length Dual-Flared Vented Pole Design
• High-Strength Brass Voice Coil Bobbin
• Heavy-Duty 8ga. Push Terminals
• Computer Optimised Magnetic Circuit
• Designed and Engineered in the USA

I have the non colour screen version of the Pioneer unit. Its a brill unit apart from the fact that the ribbon cable fucks up quite often on the sliding front, rendering the headunit useless
Mines about to go in for repair.

double check on the amp mate, but i dont think it will work well (it will, but wont get the most outta that amp etc).
Like i said, you need 300wRMS at 1ohm or 4ohm or go for the dual 4ohm coil version of the sub, then you will need 300wRMS at 2ohm or 8ohm (obviously ull go with the 2ohm)

that amp matched to the swr-1241D, i believe, the dual 4 ohm one will be a right match.
dual 4ohm in parallel makes 2ohm load.

thats what i thought, well i ordered everything there (pioneer unit) except the sub, i spoke to someone at caraudiosecurity and they said the same as Carb_fanatic, however i got this email from caraudiodirect...
""Alpine mrd301 and 2Ohm
Hi,
You would need to run the voice coils in series showing the amplifier a 4Ohm load as this amp is not 1 Ohm stable.
This would mean it's producing 175w RMS which wouldn't be enough really for a Type R sub as these have a 300w RMS continuous power handling.
Hope this helps

what he is saying is that it wont run at 2ohm, what is the score!?!?

Dual 2ohm voice coils can either be wired in parallel at 1ohm or series at 4ohm.
If you want to run at 2ohm you either need a 2ohm sub with single voice coil or 4ohm DVC in parallel.

Parallel
Wire both + together then off to the + on the amp.
Wire both - together then off to the - on the amp.

dual 4Ohm`s what ya need tells you how to wire it to get ur 300w rms figure, got the same sub amp as you sounds good when set up right but i got the alpine unit with the MX button makes the sub sound ace in mode 1.
