i dont want one of those cheap crappy ones that are battery operated and light up the whole bloody inside of the car
ive seen in a VW mag once, a nice round satin chrome colour gear knob that can be wired to ignition so light comes on when keys are in, just the numbers representing the gears light up in a nice blue
does anybody know any websites that sell these type??

Why not try making one yourself. There was a website about a bloke an his E30 bemmer. He took a wire/feed from his ashtray light up the gear stick, inside the gaiter and to the top of the knob. Then just attched LED's to wire.
For the gear knob, he bought a one for a M3 which had numbers mounted on coloured plastic so the light would shine through.

thats a good idea
im very good with electrics so i guess i could easliy make one myself...
but need to find a Gear knob that is a Reverse Lock, so need to lift lever to go into reverse and have the right pattern on top, as you say a plastic with the gear numbers on which will let light through

Found the website which details this mod. It is www.timthurber.com
Look for it under the Bmw section, and then under technicle articles. Last time i looked the pictures were not working though.
