When i turn my computer on at home it begins to start and when the Windows Xp screen begins to load the computer restarts itself!!??? and it just keeps doing it. I've setup xp again and does the same. isit a hardware problem??

is it a new computer that you have built? If so try swapping some parts oevr one at a time to try and find the problem. I had a similar problem and it took me a while and some logic to identify the problem

Hi,
When booting in safe mode at what point does it reboot?
Try removing the Ram module, and putting it into the next socket...

has anyone opened up the case for any reason? sounds like it could be to do with jumpers, but i dont know why anyone would change them - possibility though

Its to do with the Ram (random Acces Memory) I'd say, Try a different dimm if U have 1, or if they are 2 different sizes the bigest 1 should be in the first bank cause that could cause it to crash 2!

not necessarily, check your motherboard capacitors see if one of them has either exploded or started to bulge / leak at the top, alternatively it could be the CPU, it's not a RAM related issue as the check during the POST / BIOS startup would report an error, it's 9/10 motherboard, but also *could* be the cpu.

The system automatically reads the size of the first DIMM and records it as the largest. If a smaller DIMM were put in the first bank, the system would read it as the largest and might fail to recognize or use the additional memory capacity of the DIMMs placed in the subsequent banks.
I am currentlly studying PC hardware and software and we tested this thoery the other day,We put a smaller dim in Bank 1 and a larger in bank 2, On Intel systems the NTLDR would start to load the OS ito the RAM the Bootscreen would come up and the PC would restart b4 the logon Procces, U cant really say 9/10 Motherboard cos it could be anything really, The sam happens on IBM Machines aswell when U dont Use IBM Ram, threw Experince I'd say check the ram First Cos its not the CPU As the Post Checks the CPU then the system Clock then the Ram

I have had this problem b4 is a panel of the case removed for some reason ? If so your case proberly has intrusion detection and thats why the comp is shutting down. As strange as it sounds lol Just a thought

The CPU could be overheating, it seems less drastic than other suggestions.
