the bottom end, thats only on the x16xe and x14xe, the c16xe is different heads, cams and crank. to the lot

so technically, if u had a 1.4 16v sport like me and you got hold of a 1.6 bottom end then swapped them, u wud have a x16xe
(excuse my stupidity but what constitutes the bottom end?)

I thought the heads, cams and valves where different on the X14 and X16's...

no x16xe head is exaclty the same as the x14xe, the c16xe has differnet head and different exhaust cam

heads are the same youd also want the 1.6 ecu!
The head is different on the c16xe though!

so to conclude, apart from bottom end they are the same

bottom end is the bottom of the engine....
pistons con rods crang block etc etc etc,basically everything below the head gaskit

lol - when u said bottom end i had images of me taking a bottom end off a 1.6 and bolting it onto my 1.4
seems as though that makes up pretty much the whole of the engine with the exception of the head
oh well, i just keep sitting in lectures thinking, ohhhh, i wonder if i cud do that - but obviously here, i cant

Yes different bottom ends means completely different bore and stroke, so it makes much more sense to just swap the engine over.
