Right had my 2.0 cav calipers on my sport for a year now, the pedal was never spot on but i knew it would stop me.

I have been driving a new astra for a month or so so i am used to a perfect pedal.

Now the sport has a 20xe I need to address this feel in the pedal, I took it down the road and thought i was going to die when i put my foot on the brakes!!

There is no air in the system i am 100% sure of this, when the front calipers are clamped off the pedal feels spot on. The calipers were bought as new items from a reputable company.

What does eveyones elses brakes feel like i have about half pedal of nothing before i get any pressure.

Colud it be a problem with master cylinder? If so how much will i be looking at to fix this.

are the brakes round the right way, its a common mistake that people make. u need to have it so the bleed nipples are at the top.

i have a corsa B with standard brakes i have had new discs and pads on now for about 3 or 4 months and the brake fluid was changed about a month back and i still got nothing for about just under 1/2 the pedal

There's lots of parts in the corsa brake system, I hear its those that cause the slack feel, not the callipers. Got cav gsi setup and braided hoses, so once the pedal bites its solid

i've got ATE calipers with goodridge lines and they are particularly uninspiring

i have ate brakes and id say i have to press halfway before i begin to feel the car slow down

yea i got 2.0l green stuffs, drilled grpved discs and braidied lines and mines the same
try pullin the hand brake up just a notch or two and feel the diff,its to do with the auto adjusteres are shit on the rear so i've been told

my 2litre 16v spec brakes from v-tunning.co.uk are fine!!!!

they stop the car dead when i want them too!
and pedal feels good, not too stiff or too spongy and it comes back up quick after pressing!

and i havnt got braided hoses just standard ones and car has ABS

same set up here so what the bloody hell is wrong??

im really not sure mate
could be anything.. hoses, bigger wheels, ABS, brake drum, brake bias, brake fluid, master cylinder etc???

how does the pedal feel exactly? does the ABS work fine?
have you tried bleeding them again but using completely new brake fluid??

people say teh same with the v6 ones however mine always stop me dead and the feel is ok.

I think the rears are ok had them apart and re adjusted them,

Thing is i nowproblem is at the front cos with the fronts clamped off the pedal is good and hard,

With the system open the pedal is very low, you have to pump the pedal to bring it up but even then there is a lot of travel before you feel the stoping power.

there is still air in the system then? vauxhalls are a night mare to bleed.

clamp off both front hoses then release one clamp and open the nipple and get someone to push the peddle down and hold it there, while you close the nipple then clamp the hose off again (allthis time with the peddle down and the clamp on the other side), when the nipple is closed you can bring the peddle up slowly keep doing this a few times then the other side and see if you get a better peddle

Mine were a pain, my seals had gone in my back drums, nothing severe but did cause a real spongy feel when hitting the brakes. Now on EBC discs and pads, they stop me really well when they get a little heat in them.

Do suggest bleeding the brakes or replacing with new fluid as well, worked a treat on mine, had no problems since.

my bro made this mistake. it was only that i had about it on here before that we managed to work out why they were crap.

ive got v6 ones on mine... theyve never really been right.... dont get me wrong they stop ya dead if ya want them to... but its seems like i bleed them... they work fine fore a week or so and then they feel spongy....

they felt even worse when i left them to a garage to bleed.

i tryed pushing them there last week when i was stoped in traffic and the pedal just keeps going down and down till its nearly on the floor....

the important thing is they do stop me quickly though.

still no luck my mechanic seems to think he can fix the problem by adjusting a rod at the bottom of the pedal (v tuning have also told me this) but this maybe a tricky job

still cant get these bloody brakes to work right the will lock up but the pedal feel is atrocious i would say bordering on dangerous dont know the hell to do!!

i had exactly the same problem with mine go to ur nearest halfords and invesy in a ezzi bleed system peice of piss to use sorted my 2l calipers out np
