if i set it up now, will i get 12 months from now? or does it start new each month, (like road tax) so if i set it up today, would i lose all of decembers subscription

starts from day you subsribe im lead to believe. So 12 months to the day you'll have to pay another £40 to renew.

Since i got a wireless netowrk already up and running i got a wireless ethernet bridge on mine so can put it anywhere in the house .
