choices are,
2ltr 16v
2ltr 16v turbo
not listening the 8v cause, well
Price on them differs everywhere, depends how you get the engine, some people will give you the engine and all the other parts for around £500, where as some people buy a whole car (can range from £200 to loadds) and strip it down for parts, keep the bits they need for the conversion and sell the rest to make their money back.
Telling your insurance is a very good idea, CorsaSport is not a fan of people not telling their insurance company about modifications, or not changing the v5 document.
If you want to do the conversion, do it properly otherwise you'll be paying more in the long run.

If insurance is gonna kill you, then don't do it. 7 points on your licence for driving without proper insurance if you're caught, especially in first two years of driving will be a pain when you have to take your test again
Safer to wait fella, leearn how to handle what you've got and then add some power in, you're less likely to kill yourself that way.

Ash speaks the truth... Wait a little while, or you'll regret it if you get caught. I been driving in my 1.4 8v for a year and even now ive only upgraded to a 1.4 sport, dont do huge jumps in power you'll end up in a ditch.

doesnt up your insurance to fit a new (1.4) engine. Explain that the old one died and there has been no change to the vehicle spec.

at 17 you are doing well with a 1.4 16v, cos the insurers will still try and rape you

If i was you i would just drive the thing for a bit longer, or if you can maybe sell it and get an SXi or something? Bit more power and a good base for a valver if you still want it a year or two down the line. I expect insuring the 1.4 16v is still going to hurt your wallet. My sport is costing me about £900 and im 19.

Can you afford to fit a 2.0 16v and insure it?
If yes, get it. If not, fit the same spec engine you've got now.

i can afford the conversion but not the insurance the insurance is the same for a 16v as an 8v 1400 so i might as well go 4 the 16v

Converting the 8v to 16v will be more hassle for not much more gain.

if you fitted a 2.0 16v engine and didnt tell your insurance company, your insurance would be invalid. If you crashed and mamed someone for the rest of their life, insurance wouldnt pay out for their loss. How would you feel?
Lets turn it around, someone without insurance runs you over, as a result you lose the use of your legs and suffer SEVERE brain damage, no insurance company to pay out for your resulting disabilities. How would you feel then?

Selling the car and finding a 16v SRi or early Sport is cheaper and easier.
Don't consider modifying a car to that degree at your age.

would be surprised if you would even be able to find someone to insure you for a 2.0ltr at 17. I'm 17 and just for alloys, lowering and exhaust back box it added on an extra 600 quid.
