A few days ago i took my gearbox off to do a clutch change i have just finished putting it all back together with a brand new clutch (was desperately needed as some of you may have heard at PVS my clutch release bearing had ceased and was metal on metal grinding with the pressure plate!). It is a C20xe and was working fine before i did the change but now when i try to start it is just turns over and will not fire into life! I have checked for spark and i am not getting one at my coil at all! ive checked the coil according to the haynes and it is putting out the right voltages across the two windings. The wiring from the hall sensor does seem abit dodgy but was working fine before the change would a faultly hall sensor cause the coil not to spark? Another thing that is weird is when i turn my ignition on and try and start the car the fuel pump whines away as usual but when i turn the ignition off and take the key out the fuel pump continues to whine and work and does not stop unless i unplug the fuel pump relay! does this mean the fuel pump relay is nakered? and i need a new one? and would this cause the coil not to spark?
any help is very much appreciated
cheers andy

when you took gearbox off did you take the battery off when you removed the starter motor?

the fuel relay also has a seperate set of contacts in it to send power to the ignition so that could be the problem

Yeah the fuel realy is a double one which fires up the ecu aswell, if it's dodgey it won't start up.

its probably the fuel relay as this gives the engine spark. if it was the crankshaft sensor it wouldnt be fueling. so id try a new relay first

the things to make it spark are fuel relay that youve changed, loom, ecu and crankshaft. the crankshaft also tells it to fuel so if ur fueling then it cant really be that. so ur left with loom and ecu or an earth i spose

changed the loom, and ecu, think it might be because i aint got the corsa starter loom on the alt and starter motor, this is what i've been told. but the IVC plug is totally missing off the loom
what sort of problems doe sthis mean? will i need to source a whole new loom

what about if my hall sensor was broken cos i do remember stretching the wires on it by accident when changing the box would this cause it not to spark?

yeh i know what u eman ive been meaning to sort it out but it was all working before and didnt fancy taking it apart, now on the other hand that it is broken i am taking it apart and rewiring it, lets just say wiring isnt my strong point!!!!!!
cheers shes a gorgeous beast soon to be recieving the xe treatment
Lee i checked the hall sensor today and found it to be giving the correct signal so the signal is not getting through to the coil to tell it to spark any ideas what it might be?
The other really weird thing is my fuel pump will not turn itself off i have to disconnect the fuel pump relay to stop it buzzzing, what circuit in the car stops the fuel pump when the system is pressurised is there a fuel pressure sensor???
