what sort of temperatures can vaux 10-40 car oil stand???
my whole engine, inside bay, sides and undernerath is covered in oil!!!

so im thinking of buying a steam pressure washer, seen a powerfull household one which is about 1500watts and produces steam at 130 degrees
will this be enough to shift this hard stained oil easily??

Probably not. Get some heavy duty degreaser to it. Halfords do a spray that foams up and takes it off pretty well.

monkey, 130 degrees of steam wont even touch oil. if its a 4bar (most likely to get the temperature to 130). degreaser is the only way.

ok so if i slap on a degreaser and then use a steamer it will do the job yeah

so if i have to use a degreaser anyway is it really worth me spending the extra cash and getting a powerull steam cleaner when i could just get a smaller cheaper one that will do the same job??

monkey im not lazy!

its just i been meaning to get a steam cleaner for long time for around the house and thought well if i can get one that will work good on the car aswell i might aswell save up bit more and get it!!

cheers "danny-corsa" i didnt know high temp steam was dangerous for the hoses/pipes... i guess it would be safer for me to just get a smaller less powerfull steamer, like around 100 degrees, then the hoses wont suffer

steam cleaners are great for the car, and round the house. gets marks off things that cleaners and chemicals wont. i got a brand new electrolux one off an e-bay store 130 degrees, 1700 watts for £90.
