Because the ribbed single belt would not fit onto the Corsa PAS pump which you need to use as the Cavalier/Astra/Calibra pump is not compatable with the Corsa system. Also the larger, wider ribbed belt's crankshaft pully is too big and may foul the chassis of the Corsa.

would be an idea to get a non ps rack, otherwise it would be silly heavy.

You need to get a multi V crankshaft pully, you need a V type alternator and a Corsa PAS pump. You need the fitting bracket for the Corsa PAS pump and of course the V drive belts.

You need to take that pully off and fit one like mine, you can even get a fancy aluminium one from Courtenay if you like... Then your alternator fits onto the bigger part of the pully, and the PAS pump fits to the smaller. As I said, the Corsa PAS pump fits in the usual place on the front of the block, but you need a special bracket. Sorry, my pictures aren't that clear. If you are still unsure I will pop out and take a few pics tomorrow afternoon of my setup, though I am running sans PAS.

Just make sure you have the pump aligned correctly, I had one recently that was a real ball ache, just spend some time making sure it's perfectly aligned and you won't have an issue

You can change the pully, but I have no idea how to lock the alternator up to remove it.... A new one is about £90
