I've always fancied the idea of building my own PC although I not particularly gifted in the art of IT. So I was wondering if any of you guy knew of any guides on the net or could help me out? I like the odd bit og gaming and use CAD from time to time and I've got a budget of £800-£1000 in mind. Also I've already got a nice 19" Sony TFT so no need for a monitor.
Any help appreciated

£1000 will get you a good pc, just get same as mine.. and a better graphics card.. sorted
P4 3.0 ghz ht
1 gig DDr2 533mhz ram
dfi utlanparty mobo
hiper TypeR modular PSU
and then id recommend a
PCI-Express X1800XT 512mb
a grand will cover that nicely

For the odd bit of gaming, isn't that overkill?
Might as well get a cheaper graphics card and spend the money elsewhere. Faster/better harddrive or something.

Also, if you're doing CAD, I'd imagine low-latency RAM is going to be much more important than a decent graphics card...
I'd say 2GB of decent RAM, minimum.

If you really do have one of those, how much was it and where from?
Cheapest I've seen them, by a decent brand, was more than £500...

My only issue with that spec would be the latency of the memory chips......CAS 3-3-3 is quite slow, aim for something beginning with 2- in my opinion.
Something like this, for example...

You might want a sata hard drive too matey, 80gbs are quite cheap now but you'll use them up fast with all the software being so large now coming on dvds etc, geta 120 - 160

Shit didn't even think about a hard drive, how thick am I I've got a 200Gb Maxtor Onetouch Portable harddrive for all my CAD and Music Stuff so 80GB would probably be enough to be honest
