I have just fitted a replacement cd/tuner and have found that whenever it is switched on the date of the Multi Function Display unit goes out When it is switched off or disconnected the date is OK. When it switched is on and I press the top left button of the MFD the date appears and can be set - but goes out after a few seconds!!
When the old cassette/tuner was used the date was OK. I have read in old posts about cutting a particular wire - but which one? And what are the consequences? Might I have to put up with the problem?
Any help would be appreciated

in the wiring loom going from the HU to the corsa loom, there will be a blue wire. either remove or cut this wire, making sure to tape up both ends of the wire

I'll try it tomorrow (weather permitting).
What is the blue lead actually used for? In the future I am planning on fitting a sub and am wondering if it might be neede for that - if so, I'll leave plenty of wire available coming out of the head unit!!

The blue wire will be used to switch your amps on, however you will need to remove it from the vauxhall loom to do this anyway

Thanks for the feedback everyone the MFD now works as it should!
Am I correct in thinking that the blue wire that I have cut is the +12V feed to a solenoid in the amp to switch on the direct live feed from the battery?
Finally as I am about to upgrade my ICE, is it OK just to uprate the front speakers and then add an amp/10" sub in the boot?
Sorry for asking simple questions, but I am new to ICE.

yes, that will be no problem, although I would recommend if you can afford it, fitting a set of components in the front and having a four channel amp to run the sub and front speakers. It makes sense to run the new speaker cable at the same time as the power and RCA then. Hope this help you.

Would front components sound better if they are amplified?
I admit that the standard front speakers are trebbley tinny carp, could a half decent set of components add more bass to the front?
BTW if you keep answering questions, I will keep on asking them

fronts are prob better through an amp but i run mine str8 off the HU n theyre fine (depnds on ur HU)
comps will add more bass in ym experience but once youv'e got subs in ur best bet is to get a set fo comps that give a good sound 4 mid range and leave the bass to the sub(s)

yep!!
mine are running off my headunit at the moment, but will be from an amp in around 2 weeks, when I get around to running the cabling for my amp to the components in the boot, along with the active sub

When fitting components to the front, where do the tweeter parts fit? I guess they fit above the door handles (as per the standard fiting in my Vectra) but is there enough room for them as they look a tad too big to fit comfortably?
Finally, is it recommended to also fit components to the rear - eg in the parcel shelf or 3/4 panels when fitting a sub in the boot?

As far as I am concerned, and a couple of my mates, we have all just fitted a good set of components in the front and a sub in the boot, and just left the rears standard, as the front produces such good sound, all the rear does is provide all round sound, rather than be the main speakers.

Thanks for that, it's just that my Corsa has no rear speakers whatsoever -so what should I do?
I imagine that with no 'normal' rear speakers, all the rear passengers will hear is bass.

Is it TA??? think it is... press that button and it will reappear.
(But, i always thought. how useful is the date when your driving down the street) 
Got my new car... I always look at the display thinking what date is it!
As for amping fronts. It will make a world of difference. If there comps etc. Standard speakers will break with the extra power.
When upgrading speakers. People are more often than not disapointed.
A speaker with a higher power handling is not a sensative as 1 with a lower power handling. So although sound quality is increased often you loose volume when upgrading speakers without amping them.
O and if you hold both the buttons on the MFD it displays your speed. where the date should be... Its in kmh and works from 0 to 56km/h not sure why? Anybody know?
