What sort of material could these be made out of tho As not to crack with the heat.

They are made from a thermosetting plastic...

8v rocker covers on later engines are plastic anyway so surely someone can mould one out of a thermosetting clear plastic.....but who??

LOL
Think you'll find all rocker covers are metal - even the 8V ones LOL
Are ppl getting confused between spark plug/lead covers on the rocker cover?

Not all rocker covers are, as said some newer 8 valve engines have plastic covers so does the 2.0 16v Ecotec

Surely not the actual rocker cover? You on about the cover over the rocker cover?
Im certain that a plastic rocker cover would not be durable at all, would melt/crack etc...

A lot of later rocker rocker covers are plastic.
Could be done I'm sure at a cost. Could you machine one out of a slab of perspex?
Probably wouldn't be much good for everyday use, but for shows it would be cool, as long as you have a fantasically clean engine and oil!

The actual rocker covers on the 2.0 16v Eco's and later 1.4 8v's are plastic. Rocker covers dont get that hot. I believe the Z20LET's are plastic as well...

rocker cover? as in the metal thing that covers ur engine? take ur car out for a drive, touch it and tell me it doesn't get that hot.
and if you want to see what state a clear one would get in... start ur engine and then take the oil filler cap off lol. you'd get the same effect buy just chucking a load of oil on ur rocker cover.
if you are on about the spark plug cover (ie the bit that says ecotec on it), clear plastic would be do-able... just slightly pointless if you ask me. better off getting a carbon type one or spraying one urself

If they are made from plastic then they will be made from a resin.
If you want a clear rocker cover the only way you can do it is using a ceramic material like glass...
