the bastard always clunks like fuck going into 1st gear, is it the clutch release bearing or something? (the clutch is starting to bite quite high now)

maybe dragging on the clutch, is it physically hard to engage gears ?

Mine is hard to change down into first, I mean say you were in second then you change down to first, it doesn't go in unless you push it hard

i think the syncros stop you going to first unless stationary... or very close to still

It's probably something like that as 1st (and every other gear) is fine all of the time apart from when changing down to first
