just bought an advent pc, second hand. The fan on it is seriously loud, not sure if i can put up with it, its quite a powerful pc, and i know the fans have to be bigger and cool better, but this thing is really loud, is this normal? anyway of sorting it?

you can usually slow it down via BIOS but it may cause it to overheat.... u cud invest in other cooling options or change fans.

Best way is to change heatsink along with fan. If you post the cpu type I can help you choose the right heatsink fan.

The larger the fan the less rpm it needs to move cfm of air. Therefore less dB which results in quieter.

you have to locate the troublesome fan, if its the cpu fan there are a wide range of alternatives.

the fans that make the most noise in mine are the two on my gfx card.

get fans that are brushless such as asaka

i would buy akasa too........

Also if its a ball bearing fan your bearing might have went.

I replaced my chipset fan with a heatsync.

other than that fans are easy to replace and you can order them relatively cheap

I've just got hold of an Arctic Cooling graphics-card fan replacement, it's nice and quiet and has dropped my graphics-card temperatures quite a bit...

I'd probably suggest Zalman for cooling CPU or case, although that would be not from personal experience, more from friends in the business who've used them...

Just turn the fan down to 7 or 5v.
