mine doesnt go much over a 100 either and i got 15"s on. but i just put it down to the fact that its a 1.4. but mine is suprisingly quick getting to that speed, even though its scares the sh*t out of me.

Could be a number of things, weight in the car, size of wheels on car, or something as simple as a split air pipe on the inlet manifold. is there a lack of power between 2000-4000rpm? any engine or warning lights coming on the dash?

ive got a 1.4 8v sri, and i've had 118mph which is surprisingly quick for such a small car. but its helped with a ported, polished big valve head, superchip, full exhaust system and induction kit with enlarged induction air pipe. one of my m8's has a rally-spec engine 1.4i 16v with dblias manifold, and full exhaust system and he gets 129mph! not bad considering!

i think hes still running the engine in though so should be rapid in a couple thousand miles. some engines are just naturally rapid and some are just shite through one reason or another. (lack of servicing etc)

as far as i know, its ported polished/skimmed + lightened head, titanium valve springs, 'blueprinted' bottom end with rebored block, bigger pistons, strengthened crank + flywheel. dblias inlet manifold, calibra let injectors, regal oil pump (i think) vernier pulleys, fast road cams, uprated fuel pump, few bits and pieces with standard full s'less exhaust and induction kit. apparently good for 140-150bhp when run in properly.he wants to add a 100bhp shot of laughing gas too! should be mental!!!!

Hi,

I had a 1.4 8v and its top speed was about 95 with 15's on.

I'd say its likely that the rolling resistance of the big tyres is stopping your car going any faster than 100. Has your car's acceleration been hampered since fitting 17's?

In fact with 17's on I'd say that was quite a good figure !

Hope this may help

When was the last time the car was serviced? Plugs and leads changed etc? You can't expect a car to be running book figures unless everything is mechanically sound.

My old 1.4 Sport would do around 115mph.

The speed does die off after 80ish though and its a steady increase after that. They're only 1.4's don't forget.

had 114mph in my 1400, which was a good strong eninge, reg oil changes etc, always ran real nicely.

it take a chunk off top end with heavy 15's on it though, really slowed it down until i got some aluminium tigger rims.

actually suprised how much faster my 1600 is though, flies up to 100 and has loads more torque lower down.
