i've bought it via steam so i dunno if you can play it with or without steam. But you dont need half life 2
and its fucking awesome

lol, i just bought it last nite.. tenner from steam. back of the net.
its shit hot graphics.. Valve have definatly got the game engine spot on.

everyone is talking about the graphics, thus they have improved since original HL2 then?
I have a P4 2.8, 1GB ram, Geforce 6800GT, you think that will be good enough to run it on decent settings?

yeah i think so.
but you will just miss out on the extra things such as HDR and other lighting effects (i think).
the quality of the game should still be superb.

your 6800gt does support the new HDR effects. you'll be fine seth, and from what i saw, the graphics have vastly improved since half life 2

It's a vast improvement over HL2, even with the fact that I have AA and AF turned off (HDR is still on, though).
It's getting annoying killing things with the grav gun though!

i have an Athlon 2200XP @ 1950mhz, 1GB RAM and a Geforce 4 Ti4800 and it runs sweet as a nut
