I wrk for EDS and for us its basically 1st line call centerish work, also basic troubeshooting and tasks, such as unlocking ppls accounts etc. 2nd line are like NT (server team) unix team, field services etc. For 3rd level we have a few teams, NT level 3 who generally take on the big complex problems - some of the guys are like machines.

You're looking at a sys admin and above job, and you don't even know what 1st/2nd 3rd line is?

1st is like Helpdesk, on the phone doing simple taskts.
2nd is a bit of first but with more knowledge, e.g going to peoples desks and fixing computers.
3rd is a bit of 2 but mostly server based.

maybe i should have explained that a bit better! Just graduated, and am basically looking at what sort of jobs I'd like to do. Happened to see network administrator listed and liked the sound of it.
Thing is though virtually all the jobs require a few years experience first, so looks like I'll have to go with some training company first (they still pay you which is alright)

I've got a first in Computing Studies now, but like in my other post most of the jobs need some sort of experience

ahhh. Well the company where i work basically works as:
Tech Support (1st line and 2nd line combined)
Sys Admin
Boss.
Sys admins are NEVER employed externally, due to the type of business we deal in, so Tech support are always promoted to sys admin and above. So would maybe be worth looking into 1st/2nd line jobs before thinking of 3rd.

Alright thanks guys.
Also does anyone know much about these training and recruitment companies? Had one phone me up the other day - JRG Partners. They apparently take you on, train you in the area you want to go into for 2 years on full pay (the guy said 18-25k first year, 25-35k second year).
I'm going up there next Thurs to find out more, but just wondered if anyone knew about them and what they do exactly? It seems weird to me that they'll actually pay you and give you training free

Ask them how much they take of your wage if the training is cheap.
