I was just wondering on a VERY rough quote to settle an arguemnt, so if anyone could let me know then it would be appreciated!
The job to be done is redoing the paving on the patio, its about 2.5m x 2.5m (so in total 16 slabs to lay @ 600mm x 600mm). The paving slabs there now arent concreted down and come up easily, you wouldnt be expected to move them off site, and the new slabs are already paid for sitting just round the corner, as is the sand.

What sort of price would you quote for taking up the ones there, putting them to one side, and putting down the new slabs that are already on site?

Cheers

Yes that price sounds reasonable but IMO a builder could quote you up to £200

Do you want them concreted in? Or just laid down?

The smaller the slabs, the easier it is. Dig out your patch to whatever depth. I did about 1/2 an inch lawer than the slab. Spread a dry cement mix where you want the flags, level this off, put on flags, smack with big rubber mallet until level and leave it.

The moisture under the slabs will set the cement in a couple of days.

this is just to settle and argument between me and my so called best mate who came up here to help out with the house. He wants £32 for laying 4 slabs, and he's not a professional builder by any means, had no training or qualifications. Im going to finish the job myself no problems, just thought id find out!

If its just laying them on a bed of mortar then i would charge about £50-60,

if you wanted it done properly digging down 6 inches from the DPC, 4 inches of hardcore, leveled with a whacker plate Sloped if necessary , then inch and half of screed or sand depending on the thickness of the slabs. when that is all done and set, come back a few days later to fill the joints with a dry mix and then wash down. You would be looking at about £400 as there is a fair bit of work involved as you can see.
