my battery died and after jump starting the car i attempted to turn the radio on to enter the code and nothing happened, the radio wouldnt turn on at all.
its a standard CAR200 radio cassette and the code light is not working when the ignition is off.
anyone know what might be wrong with it?

Fuse? Have you tried taking the actual head unit out and plugging it in again?
I'm sure you know how to do it but fairly straight forward.
Allen key to take out 4 bolts then you need a set of these to remove it:
They'll lock in place then simply pull it out - the radio and ISO connector is actually mounted in the cage so just pull it out, have a look in to see what is behind then push in carefully.
Better still, take this opportunity to get a new headunit! Doesn't a tape drive you potty? I bet you have an iPod plus iTrip though...

No worries, us 12vers have to stick together, lol.
Do you have your "Vauxhall Audio Manual" that comes with the car, with others bits like Service Book and user manual? There is some stuff about entering the code etc could be useful.
I just had a quick look on eBay and the right one isn't on there. The code displayed on the top of the brown line to the left is "TS 1284-C-97". Vauxhall may have some of these still lying around.

Oh, I have a CAR300 that I may be willing to sell if you have any problems haven't got the security code for it though. These are really expensive from Vauxhall but apparently there are places on the net where you can get them...
Then again I might not sell it because if my current headunit goes kaput, I won't have a stereo and that'd be shockingly boring driving to Uni

Ok, cool. Not really any more I can recommend apart from fuse or unplugging etc. Someone else might have an idea on here though?!
You'll love a CD player - you can pick up MP3/WMA ones really cheap now, and they don't have to be shocking makes. I got a Kenwood for about £80, and from Halfords. It also came with an ISO lead so didn't need to buy that! I just had to buy 2 aerial extension bits. The aerial on the back of the CAR300 was on the left as you look at it from the back, and the one on my Kenwood was typically on the right.

A local auto supplies should have the relevant keys, plus it means not waiting for them to come from online - also try Halfords, may pay a slight premium but saves waiting!
I hope it works out for you, if not, roll on Xmas!
Also, have you tried ringing Vauxhall?

yeah was thinking halfords for the keys, dont know where anywhere cheaper is in carlisle.
havent tried ringing vauxhall, thought they would probably charge too much just to look at the thing, plus ive got no credit on my phone.

haha just ring them and ask if this is common. Just tell them what has happened, they might say over the phone "oh yeah, simply...". We can only hope anyway lolz.

Just out of interest, does your interior light work at the moment?
The fuses are all available at any motor factors / Halfrauds

I don't think fuses are hugely expensive.
Looks like a visit from Santa is on the cards!
