the last two days my car has been boosting a little odd.
Bascially if i put it in a high gear and floored it it would boost round to above 20psi stay there for about a second then fall to about 15/16/17 depending on gear.
Now its boosting round to about 17/18 then falling straight back down to 15/16/17
it doesnt appear to be holding less boost at the top of the revs but the initial surge is less.
Any ideas? could this just be the weather at the moment?
VAGCOM showed up an intermiitent fault in the coolant temp sensor. Could this be a cause? car temp is reading correctly and no odd fan activity either

coolant temp sensor generally is completely un-related to the engine temp on the dash. its an ecu sensor. if its up the chuff could be giving ecu false info and yes, causing problems.
generally speaking, turbo cars run better in cold weather as the charge temps are lower. ive seen higher boost in the last few days compared to say 6-7 weeks ago and i havent changed a thing

The same settings which have been making me 15/16psi all summer have been spiking to 17.5psi in the intitial surge... dropping back to 16.5psi higher up the revs. Can only be down to the cold, dense air...
But loosing 5psi is massive... that could be costing you about 30-40bhp
I would say the ECU is interfering if the turbo is in good condition...
