nothing wrong with that one mate. they are really cheap these days....think the last one i got was a fiver from B&Q.

As for plugging it into the mains - yeah you can do but i prefer to put this sort of stuff on a fused spur. Saying that, you said its a replacement for one you already have so i guess you already have a supply there too?

the one that is currently installed is a bit pooh, not only does it look crap but there are two HUGE lanterns either side of the patio doors. They just look crap to be honest (and they're starting to go a funny yellow colour where the sun has stained them).

I wanted to replace them with something a bit more subtle

The ones there at the moment just run round the doors and then through the wall and into the living room where they plug in behind the TV.

How would i go about hooking the new one up to the electrics? I don't have a clue obviously the less wires on show the better and if i can free up a plug socket then that's all good.

i'd remove all the old crap and start from scratch. You need to first figure out where your new one is gonna go. Have you got access to the floor boards in the rooms at the back of the house?

gonna rip all the old stuff down at the weekend. The new one is going to be located 5 or 6 inches above the patio doors in the middle.

Not sure about the floorboards, we have laminate flooring in the living room so imagine they would be a pain to get to.

Perhaps a straight forward plug is my best bet

sorry mate, i meant the upstairs rooms!!! Was gonna say you can fit the light above the patio doors at the height of the gap between the downstairs ceiling and the upstairs floor boards. Then you can drill a hole straight through to get a cable in and connect it under the floor boards upstairs. That way the cable will be hidden.

getting access upstairs should be a lot easier. Will have a chat with the old man and if he can lend a hand this weekend.

Thanks for the help mate

The 150w one is about £5 from B&Q without a PIR sensor, I have mine at the front plugged in the socket ans it's been fine.

meh

Light arrived yesterday and upon opening the box I realised it didn't come with any sort of power cord +

Took the back off and it looks like a simple job of stripping some power cord and connecting it up.

Where would I get this though? Would maplins sell it?
