What cable do I need to be able to use my surround sound kit with my PC?

I have a 71 sound card but can't find the right cable anywhere.

Definitely go digital and let the surround-sound amp do any decoding (DTS, etc).

Even the cheap Sound Blasters have a 'hidden' digital-out using the left channel of line out

Tried this but it only produces sound out of the left and right speaker.

You just need an optical cable aka TOSlink.

Goes from the on-board sound digital out (the little black socket with the grey cover next to the yellow coaxial digital output) to the 'Digital Input' on the Sony unit.

If the Sony unit had a coaxial digital input (the yellow RCA connector on your motherboard) you could have just used a standard RCA cable

Should be able to pick them up in any Maplin, Richer Sounds, Currys, Comet, etc.

are you sure there isn't a digital in on your Sony James?

What kind of sound do you get when you just use a 3mm jack to red and white RCA?

When i use a red and white lead I get sound but only from the left and right speakers, none from centre or rears.

Definately no Digital In.

Unless you can see one on that pic?

There isn't.

What other otions would I have?

I might scrap they surround sound kit and get a single dvd recorder, then could i buy speakers separate to use both with my PC and DVD player?

Or would I need a separate Amp to?

get a set of digital surround sound speakers to use with your PC. Just one simple cable then. I would recommend Logitech.

I think the Logitech Z5400 would be a good purchase. Pretty sure it has digital in.

I have a 4.1 system at home I'm selling. Logitech also. That any use to you? Would be letting it go for next to nothing, just want rid of it.
