Used the xbox this morning, all fine, turned it all off, went out about 1o'clock, come home just now and turned it on, three little red light flashing away at me.
Checked support, apparently its some kind of hardware failure, but last resort, help site says call customer support. Rang them, went through all the normal crap, turn it off and back on, blah blah blah, still not working. she offered to initiate repair process, which takes 15 working days!! Told her I'd call back after I've spoken to the shop tomorrow, not impressed as its like, 3days old and broke!
Chances of Game putting their hands up and exchanging it? Not fit for purpose etc. and what about the next 15 'working' days? will I get a courtesy xbox, like we have to give our customers courtesy cars? bloody doubt it!

How old is it? (In terms of how many days/weeks since purchase)
Most places have a Xmas gift exchange policy. Ring the store first to ask what they can do, if they don't offer to exchange then make an official complaint. Sometimes you have to do this but in cases like this it usually means they accept it wasn't fit for purpose & exchange it as long as they have one in stock
Hope this helps

when I had my 360, it worked for a day then when i put it on, it came up, system error, and some code, took it 2 the shop, they ran it, came up the error, so they foned tech support to see it was a genuine fault, they just ended up replacing it, sold it a week later, didnt play it that much

mine keeps giving the "unreadable disk error" all the time, disks are clean and no scratches will get it exchanged sometime soon, when the chrismas bargain hunters have left the shopping centres lol.

In what way Drax? Unreliable? Or just generally to use?
Fingers crossed they exchange it, cos I got the right hump about it! If I get it back 17th Jan, I'm in Italy for a week until the 27th, so that's a month of £400 just sitting, not being used
Steve? Eh? PSU?

Because ive moved on from consoles, Ive become too use to using pc's for gaming, dvds, even tv now, online gaming etc, and what with work I just dont have time or bother for it any more
the games on the xbox just arent appealing to me, the only game i think id be at home with on a console is maybe a driving game, I dont have any of those and I have LFS and a good wheel on the pc so why bother?
Any one have any advice in getting their money back after having opened / used one of these..
And to answer your question, id rather have my money and stick a nice clutch in my 200

why do you have to consistently stand up for things you have or have had? are you not allowed to not like them or say they are unreliable?
my mate is on his 4th 360 in the space of 6 months which for a games console i think is absolutely shocking. My other mate's one continuously crashes and he is being fed some bullshit about the cache not refreshing itself and the cooling systems on the console itself being insufficient.
It's not all rosey in the x box gardn by the looks of things unfortunately

there have been a fair few dodgy 360s, but when the ps3 reaches similar numbers i bet we see the same thing happen, and thats meant to get twice as hot as the 360

You get all the people with them standing up for them which gives a one sided view. You're best going onto cnet or some other tech site and watching video reviews from editors and the like.
