Oh dear -- only reason VHS beat (superior) Betamax is because the porn industry chose VHS

Has that been reported anywhere else apart from that site?

I can't see it and it would be a big blow to blu-ray.

They were all picking blu-ray because it was a better format as well.

Would be stupid for Sony not to allow them, as Ian said its why VHS won out in the end.

And hasnt LG brought out (or bringing) a blu-ray and HD player in one?

Indeed.

VHS was nice and cheap Tim which appeals to people like the porn industry where quantity over quality is what counts.

The format was available from more manufacturers which pushed the price down even further.

Sony sure know how to shoot themselves in the foot don't they.

Yip i've still not seen it anywhere else and a site that talks about paris hilton or whoever it is isn't first on my list for tech news tbh.

"That is good.
pornography is a misuse of the human body by people who really can’t control themselves and are addicted to sex. they could not stop if they tried.
It leads to self abuse, rape, child abuse, and crimes. it is truely inheriently evil and an attach on one’s soul."

lmao what a fucking idiot

Blu-ray is technically the better format

But that doesn't normally matter.

ive heard that hd-dvd gives better picture and sound, but it did seem more like opinions rather than solid facts. or did u mean it holding 80 gig, more technical format etc..

at first i thought blu ray was going to fail badly but sony have got so many film studios on there side for this round.

before this thread porn in hd never occured to me, how sweet would it be though

both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray support the same codecs so its all down to the film studios.

At the moment i think HD-DVD is using a better codec but Blu-Ray is due to be switching over to it very soon which will make them virtually even.

it sounds like that this is true that porn wont be coming to blu ray.

this was posted up on a ps3 message board:
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=927750&topic=32997098

who knows what this will do to blu ray, it will have some sort of impact on it though as the porn industry in very very big money

From that report it sounds totally different to the first post. The first one clearly says Sony would not allow it yet the 2nd post is saying that the porn producers perfer HD-DVD which is a completely different thing.

If in 2 years there are 20M PS3s out there and only 5M HD-DVD players I am sure they will start shipping on Blu-Rays.

The whol VHS-Betamax comparison is soo of the mark as its a completly different industry to then.

didn't read them all, but i couldn't see anywhere it said sony specifically disallowed porn... the adult industry just prefers hd dvd

yeah after reading alot of those it sounds like porn hasnt been banned from blu-ray just that some studios actually prefer the picture/sound quality of hd-dvd, hd-dvd is alot cheaper and only a few of the big porn companies (playboy, vivid etc) can afford to use blu ray, theres alot more hd-dvd players in peoples homes compared to blu ray players

Fraid not - Around 120K stand alone HD-DVD + 150K xbox360 HD-DVD players ~ 270K. Sony has shifted 400K PS3s (US Numbers only)

I suspect its fairly similar all worldwide but can't seem to find any world wide results.
