toshiba have announced plans for a 50GB HD-DVD which brings it up to the same storage space as blu ray.

also there have been 300 new titles added to the hd-dvd list, and planet earth comes out on the 24th april on hd-dvd and blu ray which will look fcuking awsome

i have the samsung r74so probably not  , though 1080i movies through hdmi should still be very impressive

i know about the 100GB blu ray discs but at the moment its looking likely that they will be only used for blu ray recorders as 100GB for movies is absolute overkill.
50GB on either format is good for about 5 hours of HD video

they also said no to 1080 but we have that now. HDMI cable will be here by the summer

you can only reach 1080p through HDMI though, and as far as im aware the hd dvd add on simply goes into a usb port on the back of your 360 and has no HDMI output itself(the hd player) so microsoft would need to realese one if they except people to use 1080p

As john said, current scaler seems to show that it's impoissible to produce 1080p - hence why a HDMI cable hasn't come out as both the VGA and Component cable can handle up to 1080i

It's definitely a new chip in the new xbox revision so I doubt they'd change it from a non 1080p one to a 1080p one for no reason.

There was spy shots which a HDMI port on it but they apparently are not of a real product. Some sort of prototype of what it could have look at release had they put one on - which then didn't in the end.

john i believe they were the same pics in that thread you posted about the 360 v2, i heard it was just a 360 owner with brains upgrading his 360 but alot of people seem to think it is a prototype of an updated 360 to try and win over possible ps3 buyers

I believe the current xbox 360 outputs at 1080p over the VGA cable, so the scaler chip seems to do fine in that respect. Component can output games at 1080p also, but most monitors/TVs cant take 1080p via component inputs, but some can and do.
More to the current point though, if you have native 1080p contect (HD-DVD) outtputing at 1080p to a 1080p monitor then it doesnt matter what the scaler chip can do, since it wont even be used.

However, the reader will cost around US$15,000, and a single disc will cost around US$120-180
