was driving along today when i got a loss of power.

when i put my foot down theres a really loud knocking/tapping coming from the engine about say 3k.
still driveable but i duno if the top ends gone so it's going to get worse and i should get a new engine, or if i should get it looked at?

help really appreciated as its a really good car and i want to geddit fixed!

I'd get it looked at dude.

theres no such thing as a 'top end gone'

its probably something simple, for example we recently had an evo4 in as it had loss of power and missfires, losing boost etc... other garages all said head gasket or piston rings....

after actually doing proper inspections and a compression test it turned out to be a dodgy spark plug electrode and cracked compression washer on the plug itself. £18 later, problem solved!

well what would make it have a very loud knock and be very very slow.
the knock only happens on extended revving/ accelerating in gear.
help would be much appreciated because if its fixabe for under 500 its sorted.

no isnt the headgasket. no mayo or anything. how else could i know it's gone.

only other thing that i can tell is it may be burning oil

if it was misfiring would it knock/tap?

also would it be really slow if it was misfiring?

just gone out and listened to the engine.
the knocking is coming from the rear of the engine, sort of under the inlet manifold.
definatley isn't coming from valve/piston area.
ideas?

could have gone between cylinders though, mine did the same and sound like something was rattling in the engine

it happened to me and it was that 2 of the rings had burnt out as there wasa contamination of some sort it cost £300 to fix

cant believe no body has suggest your cams. if its coming from the top end and your losing power with a rattle that would be my first port of call.

just taken a video - and it is regular, but is coming from the middle, could be my cams i guess. i'll post up the link - not easy to reli tell but the knock is LOUD lol.

excuse the 8v 2 litre - tut these modern 16v's

mine done this mate and it was my cambelt coming off the top wheel......it snapped in the end due to me not knowing what it was!!!!

get it checked i suggest mate

nah first thing i checked was the cam belt, deffo not that. plus cambelts new. posting vid up in a sec

the knocks not as clear now ive uploaded it but u get the idea i hope. is a really loud knock, can hear it outside the car when driving along.
