very urgent.
took my girlfriend home this morning and drove the 10 miles there, on the way home about 1 mile from my house, i was slowing down coming to a roundabout, went to change into 3rd gear from 5th and suddenly lost all power, all dash board lights came on except petrol/handbrake and could not start it up again. had to crawl into a lane.
couldn't get it started for ages so went away and my dad left it for about 20 minutes and it started instantly as though nothign was wrong.
he drove it home and it cut out again right next to my house. could not get it to start immediately after so had to leave it for about 15 minutes.
i drove it once i got back from work (must have been left for a couple hours) and started fine first time, went out and as i reached my destination it cut out again....
drove home and as i was slowing to a rounabout again, it suddenly cut out YET AGAIN as if i had complete stalled it and would not start at all.
left it for half an hour and started fine again.
anyone know what it's most likely to be? i'm thinking a sensor?

egr valve, mine did similar, or something to do with the map sensor, i snapped a wire and it just threw the fuel in causing it to cut out when it dropped below 2k revs.

Sounds more like the ICV to me, or the speed sender from the gearbox.
Is your speedo working properly?

everythings working as it should. speedo is working fine too.
it's an intermitten (sp?) problem so i don't know when exactly it will happen.

ICV as mine did the same caused first time by the connector coming loose and 2nd time by damp getting in.

ICV is the idle control valve,it what makes the car idle at around 800rpm on tick over.It has a small motor which adjusts itself when driving to alter the revs so they drop and rise fluently and smoothly. If this is either stuck or fubar then it wont work properly and cause the engine to not idle correctly, hence it cutting out and stalling etc!

rev counter is fine though, as is speedo etc.
temperature has been fluctuating (sp?) quite a lot recently (went up to 100 c whilst doing 70mph) so don't know if that is anything to do with it.

Go t a scrapyard and get one off another Vauxhall
I fixed my C14SE with an X16XE one, they're the same part throughout the 1.4 + cars.
