I am currently a student, but want to buy a new car, I want a credit card to cover about £2 - £3k of the purchase.
I have been offered a job, I start next month, would a job offer letter be enough to get me a credit card with a decent credit limit?

Not if you get a 0% one & play the credit card shuffle!!
I dont know about your card issue Jimbo, they might oblige with a letter detailing employment & salary. I got offered a normal non student card while being a student
Also not sure on credit limits, might not want to give you a big one seeing your yet to prove yourself. I only got £500 limit on my most recent one, one I had many moons ago while working was £2k.

Just dont get a credit card, can you not make do with what you have got instead of getting yourself in debt for the sake for a car....

Check they'll let you pay via credit card, most don't.

Niceone on the job I'm still looking Really don't wanna be spending all day on a computer and traveling 100 miles a day but if i've found nothing by June i'll start applying. Got me parents on my back now
I've got a 12,000 credit card with Lloyds TSB and a 2,000 overdraft Bit fuckin stupid giving someone those limits of my age if you ask me but i'm not stupid enought to use them. Kind of nice to know it's there though Had an account with them since i was 6/7 though and my parents use them too.
It's so easy to get into debt

Lie.
I have been able to get credit cards since the age of 18. If you still live with your parents, and it says 'household income', guess what your parents earn and slap it down. Normally asks you where you're living, I say 'with parents' because I am, then 'household income'. Also asks personal income, and I include my student loan.
Sainsbury's Credit Card = £700 credit limit - interest free till February.
Tescos Credit Card = £250 credit limit - was interest free for 8 months or so. Runs out in August.
The other option, is wait til you're earning and be patient.
Loan from your parents?

I got a credit card at 18 without lying.
Thery're not very big credit limits for household income, wonder how they work it out.
Moneysavingexpert is your best bet tbh.
Have a read and choose what suits best.

I got an Egg card at 18. I think they'll lend me 1/10th of my salary judging by my credit limit.
I'd just apply on the internet and tell them your salary for the job even though you've not got it yet.
They give you 9 months free BTW.

I initially got a Mint card, £300 credit limit iirc.
That run out, got an Egg Card. £500.
Tesco. £250.
Sainsbury's. £700.
Although I put my household income in, I also told them I was a student AND didn't have a job for Tesco one
