expensive and unreliable. spend the same amount on a TB setup and get a lot more power and better reliability.

Well i want to do things differently dont want a c20xe or x16xe on throttle boddies.
There was a site and priced it all up at about £1500 WITH management so would just need mapping ontop of that.

It doesn't have to be neither of those.
You can "make" it expensive, but it can be done for less than throttle bodies and management.
Tb's seem a tad pointless on the road imo.

Skim the std pistons to lower it.
Use standard cams.
Turbo from a rover, standard exhaust manifold with adaptor plate.
IC/boost pipes from a scrappy.
Can be done Easily.
The tricky part is the mapping.

how/why would tb's be pointless for road use? any more pointless than an unreliable turbo setup?

look at the kit courtney now sell for the x14xe and x16xe. £3500 will get you 145bhp on the x16xe
as for the comment that TB's are pointless on the road, thats nonsense. why would a smooth, progressive 160+ bhp be pointless?
some of the best road cars I have driven have had tb's.

I mean in terms of where your peak power is.
7/8k rpm is rarely seen on the roads.
I dont see why a turbo conversion would not give 200bhp? With enough boost, if you can get the CR low enough. And you would gain a shed load of torque.
If i was choosing, id go turbo.

thats true, but dont forgt the 1.2 16v makes 190bhp once courtney turbo it
and the 1.8 makes 230bhp, so you should get 210bhp easy

Thats courtney, they bodge it with spacer plates, and dodgy two rate fuel pressure regulators!
And no doubt it will be running low boost because of that.

more power from TBs? you must be joking
As soon as a turbo is added the only limiting factor is your wallet

understand where you are coming from but mine still makes 160bhp at 6000 rpm. its smooth and progressive, doesnt need to be revved to 8k to be fun.

going of regals price, you could have a very healthy tb setup with a higher output, more reliable, for less money. know which id choose.
fair enough it can be done cheaper but surely the more you skimp/bodge the more unreliable it becomes?
just pay Dave A the money for a tb kit jenko like i will be doing
by the way dave when is the setup from project v-sport going to be up for grabs?

ah...
Sorry Dave if you were talking retospectivly about
"Corsa (B) & Tigra 1.6i 16v 155 bhp £3200"
then yes your are right. In this case TBs offer more power.

turbo kits can be done on the cheap ( I know, we recently did one on a c20let with a custom manifold and big turbo) but are never reliable and often dont get 'proper' management, and that can be the crucial point
either spend £2500 on a makeshift turbo kit and keep the standard ecu with a remap and some type of aftermarket boost control or spend the same money on a new tb kit with full custom management that offers so much more and does the job 100% properly and reliably.
I recon that I could build a turbo conversion for the x16xe for under £1000 with all the spare bits I have in the garage, could see 160 bhp easily I reckon, wouldnt want it as an every day driver though.

For 2k im pretty sure you could easily build a good, reliable turbo motor.
Emerald management(£600), get dave walker to map it. Or Go-tech...
LMAO @ Courtneys prices, they charge:
Nova (Corsa A) 1.6i 8v 150 bhp £3195
For a turbo'd 1.6 8v.
Its pretty much the same kit mvaux sell for about £600.

So, you need low comp pistons...
£1k for management, fitted and mapped (Gotech)
£400 for pistons
£100 for intercooler and piping/fabrication
£300 for a new exhaust system to work with the turbo
£300 for a Mantzel box (they are pressure tested, an ebay special will explode at the seams)
That's already over 2k, you still need injectors, turbo, manifold, FPR, cams (as standard cams have too much overlap and would be shit), verniers...

Speak to carnoisseurcraig on here about reliability of turbo 16XEs.
He had a Courtenay conversion, and I'm sure he'll fill you in on all the details...
