Just got back from a little drive along the M6, and needless to say, I'm a bit puzzled by some symptoms from the car...
Driving along at 70mph (around 3200rpm) the temp gauge has begun to go from 90 to 95, then back down again... Increase to 85-90 and it reaches 100 before it comes back down, but this is only when coasting along (not flooring it).
Stick below 3000rpm (about 60mph/2800rpm) the gauge just sits bang on 90, no problems...
If I'm doing 70 and the gauge starts to increase, floor it and it then goes down... Accelerate slowly but steadily, it increases again to the 100 mark before coming down. Also if driving the car very hard, it will go no higher than about 92 at best.
I did pull over in the services to have a quick check on fluid levels & such. The coolant was still on the mark, and there was also no excessive pressure buildup which sometimes indicates HG failure. The coolant hoses and rad were also quite cool, as they are during normal running. Puzzling! Oil level was also fine and no no signs of mayo on the cap or anything. Plus the coolant was still a nice blue color with no discoloration.
Before people say CTS & temp sensor for the dash, they were replaced during the rebuild around 2000 miles ago now. As was the waterpump. The only thing I didn't replace was the thermostat, but the symptoms its got to me don't indicate a thermostat failure or fcuk up...
Any ideas??

This may sound dumb but what is your airflow into the radiator like? Is there anything that is obstructing it e.g. after market body kit/spoiler?
Any photos if thats the case?

Yup. Try checking the wires around the temperatue sensor, i know on 1.2 8vs (Much different I know, but may be of help) that the wire off the sensor can come loose, touch metal and cause the temperature readings to be all over the place.

i'd say its an airlock.
When i first did the conversion in the nova it used to read really irratic on the gauge.
