After this weekend I feel I might need a little more power!

Is this conversion easier than the 2.0 16v one?

Whiche one is better?

What is needed?

Cost? (including all parts and fitting)

Thanks everyone

Cheers Fro!

Is it worth going for the 2.0 16v instead?

How does yours run?

16v is a more common conversion.

8v is a less expensive engine, less sensors to fail and are generally refered to as bomb proof! although alot of people would say the same about the XE, they can take a hell of alot of abuse and just keep going.

People claim the 8v has more low down torque than the 16v, this is not true the 16v makes more torque at every point in the rev range.

If you go 8v make sure you get the 130bhp SEH engine from the Cav SRi otherwise go with the 150bhp 16v.

Mine runs fine, never had problems engine wise, just pas (used second hand mount (big nono ) and water hose leak. Apart from that I've done 6000 miles and ive given it a lot of stick and it just keeps going.

I look after it and it looks after me

fuel consumption on the 16v is fine, not an issue at all.

engine is very reliable, mine was always fine. took dogs abuse.

C20XE is the easiest engine i have worked on.

I've owned both as daily drivers, the 8v is good but nowhere near as good as the 16v and the rumour about it having more torque is pish.

the 8v i had topped out at 130 and the 16v was 145 if that interests you at all.

Exactly, for a track car get an XE. You don't do those speeds on the road

fuel consuption Better than my 1.6, recently got 320 miles to a tank, and was giving it beans quite a bit that week

reliabilty - the only problem due to the conversion was the pas mount which was my fault for using a 2nd hand one

easy to work on / maintain - thats what mecs are for

...fair enough

reliabilty
fair play, im sure lots of people have good ones providing they have been looked after

but

code:
thats what mecs are for

that just adds to cost of running

I reckon as long as the conversion is done properly and you source a good engine then they can be pretty darn reliable, but there are some out there which are dogs
