hi i picked up a red top lump last night and ive heard of coscast heads just wonderin where the stamp or mark would be as i havent even looked at the engine properly yet lol

on the head behind the exhaust manifold it upside down and in a arkward place lol ill gt sum pics of mine to show ya

It should have the word 'coscast' stamped under one of the exhaust ports. No3 iirc.

also if it's coscast it wont have a core plug in the back end of the head.

GM heads dont go porous as such, the casting cracks.
Coscast heads are just less prone to that. And thats there only benefit, they wont give extra power like a shit load of people seem to say,lol.

not necssary to strengthen the shell tbh, 5door wont be any stronger either

for an xe i wouldnt bother. for a let id do it. its very much worth doing if you want the shell to take the abuse.

also do i have to have an engine inspection when i change the logbooks over and will they pick up on the chassis strength?

Your shell doesn't really need it mate. The post 97 shells were strong enough to take a XE as standard. I've done 10k on my conversion and it can take it fine.

Not sure how much we would charge. It's split work, and i'd hav to check on the engine. Labour is typically about £600 for a conversion I think.

isn't the vauxhall head actually better because it's got bigger intake ports or better intake shaped ports?
