Looking into buyin a console before xmas.
I was up at my mates who has just got a 360 elite and I had decided on that to play cod4 with them.
Later on I found out that somebody was buying me planet earth blu-ray's as a xmas present under the impression that I could already play them, which I can't.
I'm now swayed towards a ps3 because of the blu ray and the wifi because I was either buying a wireless adapter for the xbox or running a new cable, both of which I wouldn't need with the ps3.
No I know the360 easily streams various types on media but what is this like on the playstation.
The main reason I want it is to connect up to the TV in the living room so my mum and dad can watch some hd stuff, easier to lug about than a PC.
So basically can I stream hd films etc from my pc

PSN is a smelly pile of dogshit tho. They should be paying people to use it tbh.
This isn't a 'which is better' debate anyway. The 360 clearly wins.

Yip not debating what one is better, was just a question on playing hd downloaded stuff mainly.
The ps3 wins by about 100 quid for what I want it to do.

You can, divx and windows media included, i'm more interested in the hd stuff though because thats all I download now, still looking into it but it looks to be easy enough.

I never suggested either was better. I was making comparisons.

The planet earths are blu-ray.
The downloaded tv stuff is in a mkv wrapper which seems to be just standard high def audio and video together.
Not sure on the movies, various/h.264.

well on the 360 i know if it cant find a codec then it will try and download a codec.
what file extension is blu ray ? you can probably find a converter.
the only thing is if your wanting hd content the 120gb hard drive might be better for you, even though your streaming stuff.
it all depends really, by the sounds of it your not really buying it much for games, so that comparison is out the window

I've had problems with streaming a lot of files wirelessly from my PC to the PS3, as it times out quite a bit. It works much better if you use a cable.

I need the blu ray drive to be able to play my blu-ray planet earth, that was the whole point.
If i didn't need to play blu-ray planet earth i'd have got a 360.

If you buy a 360 i'll tickle your left earlobe until you wet your new underwear santa got you, that could be embarassing, so i'd go for a ps3.
