Fookin hell
If i remember rightly... wiring regulations say you can only go up to 7kw-7.5kw tops on 6mm2??? Depends what kind of distance your running it over but still... doesnt comply.
On 10mm2 you can go up to 10kw

5ft of cable?? From the CCU (fuse box) to the shower location is only 5ft?
the 6mm cable will need to be replaced with 10mm to comply with regs, what size MCB / fuse is protecting the shower circuit??
8.5kw will be pulling about 37A needs 40A MCB
9.5kw - 42A needs 50A MCB

I always wire in 10mm, I usually reccoment mira sprt 10.8Kw showers .
You can get away with a 9.5 on 6mm cable depending on the run

Dont up the size of the breaker and the shower without changing the cable. That is absolutely ridiculous and you will end up burning your house down.
Your shower will work, but it'd be drawing too much current for the cable so the cable will get hot, and melt and cause a fire as the breaker (the bit that protects the circuit) is too big for the cable size.

How much would a sparky charge to replace an electric shower?
Going from an 8kw to an 8.5kw. I'm hoping the wiring doesn't need replacing.

am an electrician , if its a short run 6mm will take an 8.5.
kerry your shower setting on fire wouldnt be anything to do with the cable, prob a loose connection and probably the connection burning out. 10mm cable is expensive, an 8.5kw shower is plenty dont know why people put massive showers in.

my shower is 8kw and its crap! thats on 6mm too. Im just about to order a mira sport max for £196 delivered. Thats the cheapest Ive found on the internet. Been in my loft all day tracing the 6mm wire, so I know where to run my 10mm, and its gonna be a bitch! But well worth it!
any of you plumbers think i can get it cheaper than £196?

Anyone with a bit of common sense can change an electric shower, did one for my mate a few weeks ago, charged him £30
Just make sure the circuit is isolated and the local in-line valve is closed

Just do it properly not cheaply
