So, my brother fitted a new aftermarket horn onto my car today, it's been lying round for quite a while but was still packaged up.. it was fitted and wired correctly but sounds absolutely atrocious, like a dying, whiney animal. Any ideas what the problem might be?

check the cabling for splits etc, check connections aswell

it doesnt sound that bad! 
Connections were checked several times, its a red Ring (one of those sigle horn ones from Halfords) but still sounds bad! Well, bloody funny actually!
