Jas is having computer problems. He had a power cut and now his computer wont boot up, but the mobo light comes on?
Tried fiddling with ram etc with no joy. checked fuses etc aswell.
Any ideas?
Im thinking a shagged PSU as even though the comp is new it is running 5 hard drives etc lol

mine had a similar problem in that the mobo light appears to come on, but then disappears.... I went through the whole thing of replacing the motherboard and it still happened, replaced the power supply and it booted up right as rain....

You'll never find out without swapping some parts, ie putting in a good psu and see what happens.

A few more thoughts of mine....
PSU may be wildly under powered for the system and blow beacuse of that?
All those heat related crashes may have hurt the mobo and that may have popped?

Cheap for the power rating but i'd be concerned how long that would last and if it goes again what it will take with it 
A decent PSU should be able to cope with a power cut and have an inbuilt fuse or mech for just that reason.

Unless you have a spare number of parts it's difficult to diagnose. Motherboard light in most cases simply means there is power going to the board. Could be too little, too much or a component on the board is damaged.
I'd start by unpluging all unnecessary HD's, DVD drives and any external usb devices or anything not needed for it starting up. Remove a stick of ram or two and swap out the PSU with your sisters maybe if it's compatible with your board connections. Money is usually on PSU or motherboard.

well i'll have to try tomorrow as im working in a.m.
my sisters pc is quite old though and mines a newer one.
the psu is atx.. thats was puzzling me..
when i turn the power off and press the power its almost as if it tries to start..
(doug said its the way it gets rid of power)
surley that means the psu is working?
but the mobo would be working too then?
ive tried 2 of 3 ram
1 of 3
and each one individually with no luck

also ive tried starting with just the required HD connected and nothing else..
has 3 internal hdd and 2 external

fuse might be ok but I bet its the PSU not sending the right voltages to the motherboard as the PSU sends different amounts down different parts of the 20 pin to the MB. I only know this as mine went a few weeks ago after a power cut and it killed my psu replaced it and it was fine. The MB light was coming on as the voltage for that was good but others from the PSU to other areas were failing.
Easy test is to take a multimeter to your psu on the 20 / 24 pin to see if voltages coming.
