You need to know what type it is. What model is the computer?

It doesn't sound like you have much knowledge (no offence). Have you considered an external HDD? It'd be a lot easier and you could leave it tucked behind your computer so you can't see it, and also have the option of being able to take it around easily.

If you're adamant on an internal try and find out your PC make and model and I'll do my best to help.

As above but you can also have a look at the connector on the HD.

You'll either have an IDE:

or a newer SATA connector:

Which will determine which HD you can get. Also look to see if you have room for a spare drive to be held inside.

It might be easier as said to get an external USB/firewire drive.
Can get a 500GB drive cheap enough now:

Well either should fit as most newer boards come with at least 1 IDE slot but SATA is the way to go. but if all you want is a drive for backups then an external is your best bet

There you go then. Sata drive. Just check your comp has an internal space for it. Even older machines have at least a space for a spare drive.

Yep I'm running the 32MB cache versions of them. Seem ok so far. They're all going to be pretty much the same. Try ebuyer etc.. for free delivery.
