The new 80GB PS3 (UK) is due for release at the end of August and its going to be the same price as the current 40GB version £299. Bad news for people who have only just bought the old 40GB

Pre-order now at play.com

60gb is still the one to have then.

I have a 40gb by the way, couldn't justify the money for a 60gb, could barley justify the money for a 40gb!

Yep, the 60GB is the one to have, if you want to buy 2nd hand and get your pants pulled-down. People are just asking way to much for them.

Who the fuck plays PS2 games anyway? the graphics look horrendous on a PS3 especially after you've been playing COD4 in 1080P

Theres a few brand new ones on Amazon, Play etc but they go for silly money.

Some PS2 games are still worth playing such as Quake, Resident Evil etc. Wether or not you'd bother to play them though is another thing!

You don't lose your warranty if you upgrade the hard disk. Sony even provide the instructions as to how to do it.

Really??

I find that hard to believe, why release an 80GB version of the PS3 when its the same as the 40GB, surely they would make more money just offering hard drive upgrades rather than trying to convince current PS3 owner that they need a whole new console!

Yeah they actively encourage people to upgrade their hard discs. Warranty will be fine as you don't need to break any security seals or anything to do it.

Does anybody in this thread use SACD's or want to play ps2 games on the ps3?

If not there was no point in the 60gb.

60gb has 2 extra USB ports too. Not sure why you would need them but it does! Will the new 80gb model?

i used ot sell them, they were about £8 more than a normal CD, not much of a range either tbh.

A doomed format IMO, i still stand by that as you've never even seen one

Doubt it Marc, as you said, there's not any reason for it to have them.

It's true -- changing the HDD doesn't cancel your warrenty.

Will replace the 40GB and apparently they're not dropping the price of the 40GB just waiting until they're all sold out.

Future plans are a 'premium' version with a bigger HDD again, and probably re-introduce the backwards compatibility. Its all bollocks imo
