The guy selling this game claims that its a US game and is region free and will play on an English PS3.

I think he's wrong.

I have a JPN version of GT5P which works. I think its only dvds and blurays it effects. Games you can play any region.

Depends if your tv is NTSC compatible. In the old PSOne days when I got import games, I had to use an RGB scart to get around it.
