Ok Guys/Girls i need your brains on this one, currently i have got a pc in my room and a laptop in the spare room with a Printer attached to it, now im wanting to set it up so i can print from my b.room (PC) instead of saving stuff onto a memory stick then transferring it onto the Laptop, and before anyone suggests buying a decent but cheap printer I am a tight-wad and cba. So how would i go about setting something up like that?

Any help will be greatful.

Thankyou.

If the laptop is wireless you can print to the printer plugged into PC provided they are on the same network.

Both on XP?

Go to start \ Accessories \ Communications \ Network Setup Wizard.

Run this on the laptop and PC making sure you put both machines in the same workgroup. MSHOME or whatever you want to call it.

Follow on screen instructions and enable file and printer sharing.

Finish.

Restart both machines and you should be sorted.

Do the same thing as i said but you'll need either a router or a 2nd network card put into your PC so you can plug the laptop in.

You'll need to buy a cross over cable to do this.

if you want to print using you laptop u need the pc on for the printer spooler to work, so it needs to be on all the time anyway but if you want it to work then

find out the name of the home computer this will be under the system settings - control panel > system>computer name tab should be something like 'your-0548606' write this down so you can search for the computer on the laptop as mentioned later then go to the printer on the main PC and hit share printer in printer preferneces so it is shared Control panel > printers and faxes . Printing preferences > sharing

on laptop go add printer and scan for it using the search button and it should find it then it works and just set it as default printer, if it doenst find it go to the manual search bit and following the example type in the computer name and the printer name and that will be something like //your-0548606/'name of your printer' and search that way
reset both PC's and it should work make sure the main PC is on for the printer to work, alternativly buy a print server bout 50 quid and other main PC dont have to be on, if you get stuck give me a shout
