I'm looking at buying this;

Can anyone tell me when it says it plays divx if that means the common AVI's and MPEG's that are available on the torrent sites?

Yes it does. You can just burn them to a CDR if they're less than 800MB.
I used to burn 4 or 5 to a DVD disc to save effort
