It may be cheaper to bring one back, but you'll need to get a UK charger for it. As long as it's Quad or Tri band then I can't see why it wouldn't work. It'd need to be unlocked from the US networks though.

The exchange rate is utter shit, and has been for quite some time, so you're not going to save any money - compare the prices on the UK and US Apple stores.
