make sure you put an inline fuse in close to the battery.

cant put a fuse in line as the starter motor draw will pop it!
ill be using a dash mounted kill switch or maybe hide it somewhere for security.
just need to know the gauge of wire to use,
went in maplins and saw some 4 guage amplifier wiring but was 4 quid per half meter!!!

you can get different rated fuses. there are specific motor rated fuses that allow 5 time normal current draw for a short time.

there is plenty of need for a fuse. you will be passing a cable connected to the battery through a grommet that could perrish. this could cause a short. you put inline fuses in when running a cable to the boot from the batt so its the exact same thing here.

uuumm.... on a nova, or opel corsa b, the battery wire passes through a grommet in the firewall, and thats not fused
so whats the difference?

So what size fuse would you use?

depends really. i would hook up the cable temporarily with no fuse and measure the current draw to see what size would be needed. it will have to be a motor rated fuse so that it can take 5 times its rated load whilst the starter cranks the engine.

well the grommet that its going through is in very good condition at the moment, and i can see it as i have no heater matrix or glovebox so i could see if its perishes so no need for a fuse lol
and the wire will be very secure unlike an amp cable

christ why are people using fuses and massive wiring, if the battery is in the boot, you are simply moving it, it won't draw any more current so no need for mega thick wires or fuses.

totally wrong mate, the longer cable means there is a higher resistance for the current to flow therefore a larger cable is required. also there is a posibility of voltage drop which also means a bigger cable is required
