the difference in color is your choice, nothing to do with size.
ITs pretty easy to unlock, but I think your safer stickign with o2 since its always a constant battle between Apple and the dev team, you might have to wait 6 months before you update an unlocked version of the new firmware.
Ive owned my iphone for sometime now and im so glad I got one.

to be fair, with o2 you get the free internet usage, 100% and to download the apps, its also free.
If you went with orange your'll likely to pay a fair amount of data usage?

I am very tempted to get one. But I still have 12 months of my contract left
£400 for the O2 P&G 16gb one. They go for more than that on ebay
I have a N95 8gb now, tempted to get one as a toy and side phone but im thinking that a 32gb ipod touch would be a better investment tbh

Apparently you can buy a reconditioned 16gb from O2 for £110.
To me that sounds like a reet bargain so I am going to investigate this in the morning and if its true I will be buying one on payday!

Er No its not. Only phones running the old base band can be unlocked. Phones running pukka versions of the 2.2 or 2.2.1 firmware will be running the latest baseband which means you can't unlock them.
If you buy a phone now from what I understand part of the activation process includes updating the iPhone via iTunes which means it will get the latest update including baseband = no unlocking for you (not in the short term.

depends on the firmware on the phone - if you manage to get an iPhone with an older firmware then it's possible to unlock. And if you do manage to get an older firmware version phone, you can upgrade it to the lastest version (without upgrading the baseband firmware) and still have it unlocked.

Note that O2 are just about to put the prices down on iPhones with a contract to get rid of them before the new phone comes out in the middle of the year

its not yet confirmed, only rumours.
With that said, im sure o2 are likely to offer free upgrades again, so I shouldnt worry about waiting etc

My 2G has been a right badger since I've updated to a jailbroken version of 2.1.1 then 2.2.1. Thinking of putting it back to 1.1.4
Wireless connection is intermittent at best Could be a hardware fault. If I do i restore through iTunes could I take it back to the shop under warranty? I bought it when o2 were selling them for £169 and you set up (or didnt bother in my case) the contract when you got home

Restore it back to a pukka 2.2.1 fw and then if you can demo it failing in a shop you might be in luck but I am guessing you've had it over a year now so it will be out of its first year warranty so likely to have to be sent off.

I have a 3G. Got it last week and absoloutley love it.
Anybody thinking about getting one consider this beforehand (If you can afford an upfront payment).
I was fucked off with o2 for not doing any deals on the iPhone. I looked at the tariffs and they only offer 500 texts for £35 a month. I use 1000-1200 texts a month, so would have been paying a fortune, or an extra £7.50 for the bolt-on.
No Thanks.
I downgraded my tariff to simplicity for my upgrade which gives me 600 mins and 1200 texts for £20 PM. No contract (Can cancel after 30 Days if I like).
I then bought a P&G iPhone in the Apple Store and wacked my sim in it.
If you phone o2 about it they will say it dosn't work but it does absoloutley fine.
The Sums:
£35PM Tariff:
35x18: £630
Phone Cost: £99
= £729
I would need the Text bolt-on which would be £135 for 18 Months.
= £864
Simplicity:
Monthly Cost (No Contract) £20
20x18= £360
Phone: £350
Total: £710

I believe you get 12 months unlimited data on PAYG, might be wrong though.
But with that said, he's put his contract sim back in, so im unsure what data package he has.
The unlimited data package does make it something else...

I did the same as Phil. 1000 texts, 600 mins and unlimited data for £20 a month and bought the phone.
Just seeing if Phil has the data too.

Using the simplicity tarrifs are the cheapest way of getting an iPhone and it's suprising O2 haven't done anything about it as it's how everyone i know has their iphone.
