As title really. Got a powerflow centre section with a small sized silencer, Magnex back box, otherwise standard in terms of cat still in place etc. Car is a 1999 1.6 Sport.

Just lately the car is a bit hesitant and reluctant pick its heels up, it does still go ok but little delay when you plant it.

The exhaust lately has been popping and banging a lot and it's never usually done that. The centre pipe is 2 years old, no idea about the backbox as I bought it 2nd hand. Cat is prob the original. It's a bit smelly/fuelly in the morning just lately and sounds as if theres also a bit of a blow somewhere...

Just wondering if it sounds exhaust related and would it be a case of pulling it to bits to find a way of checking all of the sections for problems?

Cheers

Had a look at exhaust...

Seems the weld just before the cat converter itself is boogered, exhaust is flexing a lot at that point:

downpipe==||||cat flange===cat===(cat silencer bit)===centrepipe===rest of exhaust

seems the weld between the pipe which runs into the very front of the "cat silencer bit" (lol) is bust so it's blowing there.

I guess this will be causing the pops and splutters and probably a lack of back pressure hence hesitance?
